First impressions start at the kerb

Your house number is the first thing a visitor sees. It’s what emergency services scan for from the road. It’s what your courier squints at from the kerb at dusk. It’s the quiet signal that tells someone they’ve arrived at the right place — or the reason they drive past twice, call you frustrated, or give up entirely.

Most Australians don’t think much about their house number until something goes wrong. A delivery misses. An ambulance wastes precious minutes. A real estate agent says the street presence looks tired. That’s usually when people start looking — and realise how hard it is to find something that’s genuinely well made.

House Numbers & Signs was built to change that. We carry a more comprehensive range of residential address signage than any other Australian supplier: more materials, more styles, more product types — from the simplest letterbox number to a full illuminated estate entrance sign.

What actually makes a quality house number sign

The difference between a sign that looks embarrassing in three years and one that’s still sharp in twenty comes down to three things: the material, how it’s made, and how it’s installed. Most house number signs at hardware chains are neither made for the Australian climate nor designed to age well.

Powder-coated aluminium is our most popular base material — lightweight, weather-resistant, and available in hundreds of finishes and colours. For coastal environments, 316 marine-grade stainless steel is the professional’s choice. Brass and bronze bring warmth and heritage quality. Acrylic delivers a sharp modern look. Corten steel is for those who want something genuinely unique — its rust-toned patina stabilises to a finish that never looks the same twice.

Material matching matters too. A brushed gold sign on a Federation cottage looks intentional. The same sign on a glass-and-concrete new build looks wrong. We provide genuine guidance on what works for each property style — not just a product list and a shopping cart.

Materials we work with

  • Laser-cut aluminium — brushed, anodised, powder-coated and composite
  • 316 marine-grade stainless steel — brushed, polished and satin finish
  • Brass — polished, brushed, antique and aged patina
  • Acrylic — clear, frosted, mirror (gold, silver, rose gold), gloss and matte
  • Corten / weathering steel — rust-patina finish that stabilises permanently
  • Solid timber — hardwood (jarrah, blackwood, spotted gum), treated pine, marine ply
  • Slate and granite — natural, engraved and sandblasted
  • Aluminium composite panel (ACP / Dibond) — gold, silver, black, white and custom

Who we make signs for

Most customers are homeowners who’ve just moved in, are building, renovating, or have finally decided it’s time to replace the faded number on the fence. But we also work with property developers needing consistent signage across multiple lots, real estate agents staging homes, Airbnb property managers, strata managers, and local councils handling rural addressing compliance.

We make single signs with the same care as a run of a hundred. No minimum order. No minimum spend. If you need one letterbox number, we’ll make you the best letterbox number you’ve ever had.

What Our Early Customers Say

We’ve been making signs well before this site launched. Here’s what some of those early customers had to say.

“We’d been trying to find a brushed stainless house number sign that matched our new build for months. Nothing at the hardware chains came close. These guys nailed it — the quality is genuinely impressive and it arrived faster than expected.”

“I manage six Airbnb properties and ordered welcome signs and house number plaques for all of them. Consistent, fast, and when I needed a small change to one sign they sorted it without any fuss. Will reorder as my portfolio grows.”

“Bought a solar backlit house number sign. No wiring, holds charge all night, looks really smart. Our Uber Eats deliveries have been spot on since — the driver can actually see the number from the road now.”

“Needed pool safety signs that were compliant but not ugly. These look clean and professional rather than like a cheap safety label slapped on a fence. Very happy with the quality and the advice we got on what was required.”

“Gifted a personalised house name plaque to my sister when she bought her first home. She was genuinely moved. It’s mounted on her fence now and looks like it’s always been there. The quality is really something.”

How to choose the right material for your sign

The most common mistake in house signage is choosing a material based on how it looks in a product photo, rather than how it will perform where it actually lives. A sign that looks great in a studio can fail on a north-facing wall in Queensland, a coastal fence in a beachside suburb, or on a post at the end of a rural driveway.

Aluminium

Powder-coated or anodised aluminium is our most recommended all-purpose material. Lightweight, rust-resistant, UV-stable when properly coated, and available in a huge range of finishes. For most suburban homes in Australia, a quality powder-coated aluminium sign is the right answer — it’ll look good and hold up for ten to fifteen years with zero maintenance.

Stainless steel (316 grade)

If your property is within a kilometre of the coast, or in a humid tropical environment, 316 marine-grade stainless is the safest long-term choice. It will not rust, corrode, or lose its finish in salt air — which is more than can be said for most other metals. Heavier and more expensive than aluminium, but for a sign that needs to last decades in a hostile environment, it’s worth every cent.

Brass and bronze

Brass remains the prestige material for heritage, traditional and formal residential properties. Federation homes, Victorian terraces, and large estate properties often call for the warmth and weight of brass or bronze. It ages beautifully, developing a patina you can maintain or simply let evolve naturally. It reads as permanent and considered in a way that lighter materials don’t.

Acrylic

For contemporary and architect-designed homes, acrylic offers a sharp, clean look at a price point well below stainless or brass. Mirror acrylic in gold, rose gold or silver is particularly popular for floating house numbers on render or brick. The trade-off is longevity in harsh UV environments — acrylic is best suited to sheltered or shaded positions rather than full north-facing sun over many years.

Corten (weathering steel)

Corten starts life as standard steel and develops a stable rust-coloured patina over its first months of exposure, forming a self-protecting layer that prevents further corrosion. Once established, it requires no maintenance. The effect is striking — warm, earthy, and unlike anything else. It suits contemporary homes with natural or industrial material palettes, and rural or agricultural properties where a connection to the land is part of the aesthetic.

Compliance & standards

The Rules Around Residential Signage in Australia

Australian address signage is more regulated than most people realise. Here’s what you need to know before you order.

Council addressing requirements

Most Australian local councils have specific requirements for residential address signs — minimum number height (usually 75mm to 100mm for suburban properties), colour contrast between digits and background, and visibility from the road. Some councils mandate reflective numbers. We know the requirements for most Australian councils and can confirm what applies to your property before you order.

Rural and emergency services addressing

Rural properties in most states are subject to specific emergency services addressing schemes — often requiring larger digits (150mm or more), high-contrast colours, and a specific mounting height relative to the road boundary. In bushfire-prone zones, there are additional requirements around sign material and visibility. We produce compliant rural address signs for all states and territories.

Pool safety signage

Pool fence signs are a legal requirement in every Australian state and territory, and the required wording and layout is specified by legislation. Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and other states each have slightly different requirements. We produce pool safety signs that comply with the applicable legislation for your state — ask us and we’ll advise on exactly what’s required.

Strata and body corporate rules

If you live in an apartment, townhouse complex, or any property governed by a body corporate or owners corporation, there may be restrictions on signage type and placement. Some strata schemes have approved styles or colour palettes for individual unit identification. We work with strata managers across Australia and can help identify a solution that falls within your scheme’s guidelines.

How it works

Simple Process, Permanent Result

From your first message to a sign on your wall — here’s what ordering looks like.

01

Tell us what you need

Fill in the pre-order form below with as much detail as you have. Not sure on material, size, or style? Tell us about your property — the home style, where the sign will go, the environment it’ll face — and we’ll recommend the right solution. There are no stupid questions here.

02

Approve your design

Our design team creates a digital proof of your sign before anything goes into production. You can see exactly how it will look — the layout, the font, the spacing, the finish. We refine until you’re completely satisfied. What you approve is exactly what you receive. No surprises.

03

Made and delivered

Once approved, your sign goes into production. Standard orders complete in 5 to 10 business days. Express 2 to 3 day turnaround available at a small surcharge. Every order is carefully packaged and shipped Australia-wide with tracking. Your sign arrives ready to install, with fixing hardware and instructions included.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before placing your pre-order. If your question isn’t here, just ask us in the form above.

How long does a house number sign order take?
Standard orders are completed within 5 to 10 business days from the time you approve your digital proof. Express 2 to 3 day turnaround is available on most products for a small surcharge. If you have a specific deadline — a move-in date, a property settlement, a listing going live — tell us when you order and we’ll do everything we can to hit it.
Do you deliver to regional and rural Australia?
Yes, everywhere. We deliver to every Australian state and territory including rural, regional and remote locations. Metro deliveries typically arrive within 1 to 3 business days of dispatch. Regional and remote deliveries may take 5 to 12 business days depending on your location. We’ll quote your freight at the time of ordering.
I live near the coast — what’s the best material for my house number sign?
For properties within about a kilometre of the ocean, or in humid tropical environments, 316 marine-grade stainless steel is the professional recommendation. It won’t rust, pit, or lose its finish in salt-laden air the way regular steel, standard-grade stainless, or untreated brass can. Powder-coated aluminium is also a good option in sheltered positions. Tell us your suburb and we’ll give you a specific recommendation.
Can I use my own font, include my logo, or supply my own artwork?
Absolutely. We work from customer-supplied artwork — vector files are preferred (AI, EPS, SVG, PDF) but we can work with high-resolution images too. If you don’t have any artwork, our design team will create a layout for your review and approval. This is included in the cost of all orders. We store your approved artwork on file so future reorders are quick and easy.
Do you offer installation?
We offer installation services in most major metropolitan areas. For customers who prefer to self-install, every sign comes with fixing instructions and the appropriate hardware for its size and material. For large architectural installations, post-and-panel ground-mount signs, or signs going into heritage masonry, we coordinate with appropriate tradespeople.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No minimum at all. We make a single letterbox number with the same care as a run of a hundred driveway entrance signs. Volume pricing applies to orders of 10 or more of the same item — property developers, strata managers and local councils regularly use this for consistent signage across multiple properties. Contact us for a quote if you’re ordering in volume.
My council has requirements around house number size and visibility — can you help?
Yes. Council requirements vary across Australia — minimum digit height, colour contrast, reflectivity requirements, and mounting position all differ by location. We know the requirements for most Australian councils and can confirm what applies to your property. For rural properties, emergency services addressing requirements can be quite specific. Just tell us your address and we’ll advise.
Can I order a house number sign as a housewarming gift for someone?
One of our most popular gift categories. A personalised house name or number plaque is a genuinely meaningful housewarming gift — useful, permanent, and personal in a way that a voucher or a candle isn’t. We can ship directly to the recipient’s address and include a personalised gift message. If you’re not sure what design they’d want, we can include a note with instructions for them to choose their own.
What happens if my sign arrives damaged?
We pack every order carefully to prevent transit damage, but if something arrives damaged or not as described, we fix it. Contact us within 7 days of delivery with photos and we’ll either replace or repair the sign at no cost to you. We stand behind what we make.

Australia’s most comprehensive residential signage range — launching 1 July 2026

Finding a genuinely well-made house number sign in Australia has always been harder than it should be. Hardware chains carry a narrow range of basic options in limited sizes and finishes. Import marketplaces sell cheap products that look fine in photos and disappoint in person. Specialist sign companies focus on commercial and corporate work. The residential signage market — the house numbers, letterbox signs, driveway plaques, gate signs and property identification products that millions of Australian homeowners actually need — has been chronically underserved.

House Numbers & Signs was built specifically to change that. We’ve mapped every dimension of the residential signage category and built a range around it. When our full catalogue launches on 1 July 2026, it will be the most comprehensive collection of residential address and property signage available from a single Australian supplier.

House numbers for every Australian home style

Australia’s housing stock is extraordinarily diverse — from sandstone Federation terraces in inner Sydney to glass-and-steel new builds on Brisbane’s fringe, from Queenslander cottages to contemporary coastal homes, from weatherboard farmhouses to mid-century brick veneer. A house number sign that suits one of these homes looks completely wrong on another. Getting the match right is a big part of what we do.

For modern and contemporary homes, floating stainless steel numbers, laser-cut matte black aluminium signs, and edge-lit acrylic plaques tend to work best. For heritage and traditional homes, the right materials are usually brass, bronze, or slate, with more formal type treatments. For rural and coastal properties, the priority shifts to materials that perform in challenging environments: corten steel for pastoral properties, marine-grade stainless for coastal homes, treated hardwoods for farmhouse styles.

Why your house number matters more than you think

Emergency services across Australia regularly cite difficulty locating residential addresses as a factor in delayed response times — particularly in rural and outer suburban areas where house numbers are absent, damaged, or simply not visible from the road. For something that costs less than a decent dinner out, a clearly visible, well-positioned house number sign is one of the most practically useful things a homeowner can install.

Beyond safety, there’s the everyday frustration of deliveries. Australian online shopping has created an unprecedented volume of parcel delivery — and with it, an unprecedented number of mis-delivered, late-delivered, and returned parcels driven by address identification failures. A clearly visible house number, readable from a moving vehicle at dusk, solves the problem permanently.

And then there’s the aesthetic case. The front of your home is the first and often only part of your property that strangers, neighbours, and visitors see. A tired, faded, or poorly chosen house number sign communicates something about how much care you’ve taken with the property — just as a sharp, well-matched sign communicates pride of ownership. It’s a small detail that makes a disproportionate difference.

Pre-ordering before our launch — what to expect

We’re taking custom pre-orders now, before our full product catalogue goes live on 1 July 2026. Pre-ordering doesn’t mean waiting — we’re in production now and fulfilling orders as they come in. It simply means you’re ordering before the full self-service catalogue is available, so our team handles your order personally: confirming your specifications, producing a digital proof for your approval, and managing your order through to delivery.

No hidden fees. No minimum orders. No obligation beyond the standard order once you’re happy with your proof. If you’re ready to get started, fill in the form above and we’ll be in touch within one business day.
